Public-Safety Vehicle Upfitting

Upfitter Diagrams & Guide Links

Use the vehicle-specific upfitter resources below when installing Fleet 3, radar, lights, radios, computers, or other 12-volt equipment. Select the exact model year and body configuration before using a diagram.

Model-year warning: Pinouts, fuse locations, ignition sources, ground points, CAN wiring, and auxiliary connectors can change by year, trim, engine, option package, and police package. These links are starting points—verify every connection in the current vehicle guide and service information.

What to locate in each guide

Power

Battery feeds, fuse ratings, auxiliary power, load-shed behavior, and power distribution.

Ignition

Key-on sources, delayed-accessory circuits, blunt-cut leads, and relay requirements.

Ground/CAN

Approved grounds, network cautions, body modules, and circuits that must not be tapped.

Mounting

Harness routing, airbag clearance, pass-throughs, weather sealing, and service access.

Where to find key wires — Police & Fleet Vehicles

Chevrolet Tahoe (PPV / SSV)
  • Constant 12V: Battery feed at the underhood fuse block and the auxiliary battery (when equipped) — use the upfitter-provided junction blocks/ studs, not the battery post directly.
  • Ignition: Blunt-cut ignition leads in the police package harness (IP area) and RAP (Retained Accessory Power) circuits — verify key-on/delay behavior with a meter.
  • Ground: Body/chassis ground studs and harness ground blocks (G-blocks) — use the documented ground points, never paint-anchored screws.
  • Brake wire: Brown/yellow in the police package wiring — located either at the rear of the vehicle or at the center console; confirm polarity with a meter before connecting brake-triggered equipment.
Dodge Durango (Pursuit)
  • Constant 12V: Battery and PDC (power distribution center) feeds — use the upfitter taps and studs provided in the police package.
  • Ignition: Ignition/blunt-cut leads from the police upfitter harness (steering column / IP area) — note that with push-button start, ignition state may be relay-controlled.
  • Ground: Dedicated chassis ground points and ground studs specified in the body builder guide — keep grounds on bare metal with the supplied hardware.
  • Brake wire: Green/orange at pin 4 of the 24-pin white plug on the ViSM module behind the rear passenger seat; confirm the signal with a meter before tapping.
Ford Police Interceptor (Utility / Sedan)
  • Constant 12V: Upfitter junction block and battery feeds in the police power distribution — use the auxiliary fuse panel provided with the police package.
  • Ignition: Police package accessory/ignition circuits (the Interceptor uses a starter-fed system; ignition is typically provided through upfitter relay control) — verify with the modifier guide and a meter.
  • Ground: Body ground studs and dedicated upfitter ground points listed in the modifier guide — avoid the battery management system circuits.
  • Brake wire: Gray/brown at pin 8 in the white connector in the center console; confirm the state change with a meter before connecting.
Ford F-250 Super Duty
  • Brake wire: Light green wire in the driver's sill plate (kick-panel area at the door sill).
  • Verify: Meter the circuit pedal-up vs pedal-down to confirm polarity before tapping.
Dodge Ram 1500/2500/3500
  • Brake wire: White/green wire in the driver's sill plate.
  • Verify: Confirm the state change with a meter — some Ram brake circuits are CAN-reported.
Ford F-150
  • Brake wire: Gray/orange wire at the black plug in the passenger kick panel.
  • Verify: Colors can change by model year — meter the plug pins before connecting.
Chevrolet Silverado 1500/2500
  • Brake wire: White/blue wire at the BCM green plug.
  • Verify: The BCM circuit may be CAN-related — confirm the signal with a meter before tapping.
Always verify: Wire colors and locations change by model year. Use a multimeter (not wire color) to confirm constant 12V, ignition, ground, and brake circuits before connecting equipment — and consult the vehicle-specific guide links above for the exact pinouts and fuse locations.
