Testing Amp Draw Under Load

To diagnose a failing electric pump, radiator fan, or short circuit, you must measure its live current draw. Testing live amp draw can be done inline (up to 10A max) or with an inductive current clamp (safest and best for high loads). Configure your test setup below and run the circuit load.

Test Configuration

1. Select Target Load Device

Fuel Pump (nominal ~5 Amps) Low-to-medium current load. Safe for inline series testing.

Radiator Cooling Fan (nominal ~18 Amps) High current load. Exceeds standard multimeter limits!

2. Select Measurement Tool

Standard Multimeter (10A Inline Series) Red lead in 10A socket, connected in-series with power feed.

Standard Multimeter (mA Inline Series) Red lead in mA socket (rated up to 400mA max).

Digital Current Clamp Meter Non-contact inductive clamp clipped around a single power wire.
